How to Choose a Good Car Shipping Company

Posted on September 2, 2013 – Shipping Vehicles

Cars On Ferry When relocating abroad, some people choose to sell all their belongings and start afresh to avoid having to ship everything and go through a complex and potentially stressful process. However, shipping your belongings across borders, including vehicles, doesn't need to be a painful experience, as long as you choose a good shipping company.

When it comes to international freight, you want to look for a firm that has been established for some time and has a good reputation in the industry and a proven track record. Enquire about their relationships with other entities such as port authorities and Customs, as a wide network of partnerships within the shipping business is a good indicator of the quality of the company, and can help smooth out any difficulties.

It is also essential that the company you choose has specific knowledge of the country you are importing your car into, as clearing requirements vary greatly, and a lack of knowledge can lead to delays and increased costs to you.

Like with any purchase, shop around, and once you have identified a few reputable firms, get at least 3 quotes. Unless money is no object to you, you will of course look for the best possible quote, but as the saying goes, there is no such thing as a free lunch, so choosing a shipping company based on price alone might turn out to be a false economy that could translate into additional costs for you further down the line.

Make sure that you go through the quotes with a fine comb and that it shows clearly what is included, and what isn't, so that you can compare like for like.

Last but not least, take into account the quality of customer service. A flexible, customer-focused attitude will make all the difference.
